Academic Integrity Policy
Metropolis Training Institute believes that academic integrity is the cornerstone of the learning and training process, representing a system of ethical values founded on honesty, trustworthiness and respect for intellectual effort.
This policy aims to set out our firm commitment to upholding these values, and to define the responsibilities of all members of our learning community, including trainees, trainers and administrators, to ensure a fair and trustworthy training environment.

1. Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to all programmes and training courses delivered through Metropolis's e-learning platforms, and is binding on all enrolled trainees as well as trainers, supervisors and all Institute staff.
2. Forms of Academic Integrity Violation
Conduct that breaches the standards and principles of academic integrity takes many forms, including but not limited to:
- Cheating: Copying or using the work of others, or any unauthorised information and materials, during examinations or when completing tasks and assignments.
- Intellectual theft and plagiarism (Plagiarism): Quoting or using the ideas, work or wording of others without clear and accurate reference to the original source.
- Impersonating others (Impersonation): A trainee attending an exam or lecture on behalf of another trainee, or allowing others to access their personal account on the learning platform to complete any academic requirement.
- Fabrication and forgery: Altering or fabricating data or information in reports and assignments, or submitting forged documents or excuses.
- Unauthorised collaboration: Collaborating on individual assignments or tests, or a trainee relying on others in their group to complete joint work without making a genuine contribution.
- Misuse of training materials: Selling or distributing lectures, notes or any of the Institute's training materials without prior written consent.
3. Rules and Procedures to Promote Integrity and Prevent Violations
The Institute follows a set of procedures and technologies to ensure the highest standards of integrity are applied, including:
A. Electronic Monitoring and Recording
- Trainee logins to the e-learning platform are tracked and recorded, documenting lecture attendance times, the activities carried out and the time spent on each activity.
- Running weekly discussions and interactive activities with the trainer to ensure trainees have absorbed the course material.
B. Technologies used to prevent cheating and impersonation in examinations
- Declaration and undertaking: Before the examination begins, the trainee is required to acknowledge and undertake to comply with the rules and penalties for cheating.
- Secure browser (Lockdown Browser): A dedicated browser is used that prevents opening any other programs or new windows, and disables copy and paste during the examination.
- Camera monitoring: The trainee may be asked to switch on their video camera to verify their identity against their ID document, and to allow monitoring of the surrounding environment to ensure there is no outside assistance.
- Question randomisation: Designing online tests based on varied question banks, so that each trainee receives a different version, with a focus on questions that measure understanding and comprehension rather than memorisation.
- Plagiarism detection tools: Specialised software (such as SafeAssign) is used to check submitted assignments and work, confirming their originality and that they are free of plagiarism.
4. Disciplinary Procedures and Penalties
If a violation of the provisions of this policy is established, the following measures are taken:
First: Investigation
The supervisor or trainer draws up an incident report setting out the details of the violation. An academic integrity committee is formed to investigate the incident, review the evidence and hear the statements of the parties concerned. The committee submits its recommendations on whether the violation is established, and the proposed penalty, to the Institute's administration.
Second: Penalties
Based on the committee's recommendation, the Institute's management may impose one or more of the following penalties, applied progressively:
- Written notice or warning: and placed in the trainee's file.
- Trainee deemed to have failed: in the examination or assignment in which the violation occurred.
- Withdrawal from the course: and being deemed to have failed the entire course.
- Temporary suspension: from study for one or more academic terms.
- Permanent dismissal: from the Institute in cases of serious or repeated violations.
Conclusion
Metropolis Legal Training Institute affirms that academic integrity is a shared responsibility of all members of its learning community. We are committed to providing an environment that supports intellectual honesty and encourages excellence based on personal effort, and we expect all trainees and trainers to comply fully with this policy to help preserve the value and quality of the training process.
